From Commerce to eCommerce

Thinking of selling online? Think you know about Electronic Commerce? Maybe you have had a presentation by some expert consultants. It all sounded very logical and the return on investment looked promising.

Maybe, your organisation has already invested significantly in eCommerce and it's not working out exactly as planned.

The presentation link below will help you really understand what's going on in the eCommerce interaction. And if you're in the early stages of planning an eCommerce strategy, then this presentation will set you on the right course.

Evolution of Commerce to eCommerce

In simple terms, Business, is about buying something, adding value to it and selling it for more than it cost you. Once your business is trading like this, you can spend all your time maximising profits, by reducing costs and increasing revenue and doing it better than your competitors.

Commerce is the part of your Business that 'interacts' with another business, either buying or selling or shipping. Face to face Commerce has been and will remain the primary means of 'making the deal'. For the details of commerce, we have been using a form of 'electronic-interaction' (or eCommerce) since we started using the phone, then fax and now email.

We only adopt new electronic technology if it enables our business to interact faster, cheaper, more accurately and is easy to understand and use. Some larger businesses employ an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), which connects one data system directly to another. To date, most EDI tools make interaction faster, cheaper and more accurate, but they have also been expensive, complicated, inflexible, hard to understand and cumbersome to use.

The next major advance in eCommerce is now available, a tool as flexible and economical as a phone, fax or email AND can connect data systems.
